Week 6: Percentages, Percentage Change, and Reverse Percentage
Introduction
This week, we bring together everything we’ve learned about fractions and percentages. We’ll start by revising how to find percentages of amounts, then move on to increasing and decreasing by percentages, and finding percentage change. We’ll then tackle reverse percentages before finishing the unit with a final assessment project covering all six weeks.

Real-World Application – Why This Maths Matters
Percentages are everywhere! They are in shopping discounts, bank interest, sports statistics, and population growth or decline. Understanding increases, decreases, and reverse percentages is vital in finance, science, and everyday decision-making.

Day 5 – Final Assessment Project: Holiday Planner

The Task
You are planning a holiday abroad. Use your maths skills to solve the following:
Fractions
A flight is 9 hours long. You spend 1/3 of the time sleeping and 2/9 watching films. How much time is left?
Ratio & Proportion
You exchange £600 into euros at a rate of £1 = €1.2. How many euros do you receive?
Proportional Division
You and 2 friends share the €600 in the ratio 2:1:3. How many euros does each person get?
Percentages of Amounts
Your hotel costs €480. You get a 15% discount. How much do you pay?
Percentage Change
The price of a boat trip increases from €50 to €60. What is the percentage increase?
Reverse Percentage
A suitcase costs €85 after a 15% discount. What was the original price?
