c) 8 cm × 50,000 = 400,000 cm = 4 km (4)
Q2 – Fractions (8 marks)
a) 3/4 + 5/6 = 9/12 + 10/12 = 19/12 or 1 7/12(2)
b) 7/8 − 3/10 = 70/80 − 24/80 = 46/80 = 23/40 (2)
c) 4/5×3/7 = 12/35 (2)
d) 5/6÷2/9 = 5/6×9/2=45/12=15/4 =3 3/4 (2)
Q3 – Percentages (8 marks)
a) 15% of 240 = 36 (2)
b) £60 – 20% = £60 – £12 = £48 (2)
c) Increase = 60, ÷ 480 = 0.125 = 12.5% (2)
d) 170 ÷ 0.85 = £200 (2)
Q4 – Graphs (8 marks)

P(Not Green) = 7/12 (2)
b) Sample space (16 outcomes listed) (2)
P(at least one A) = 1 – P(no A) = 1 – (3/4 × 3/4) = 1 – 9/16 = 7/16 (2).
Rubric (linked to GCSE Levels 1–9)
Level 1–3 (0–16 marks) – Needs More Work
You can attempt simple ratio, fractions, and probability, but multi-step problems are difficult.
Next steps: Practise fraction arithmetic, simple ratio, and plotting points. Use BBC Bitesize and Khan Academy basics.
Level 4–6 (17–32 marks) – Good but revise areas shown
You are confident with most topics but may struggle with harder skills like reverse percentages, equations of lines, and interpreting scatter graphs.
Next steps: Review journal entries and redo worksheets for weak areas.
Level 7–9 (33–48 marks) – Excellent
You demonstrate strong understanding across the full range.
Next steps: Try extension GCSE questions on simultaneous equations with graphs and probability trees.
